Southern Cayuga CSD has an opening for a Jr HS ELA Teacher (Grade 8) starting September 6, 2022. This tenure track position will focus on teaching all students in grade 8 as well academic interventions (AIS). The overarching focus of the 7th and 8th grade ELA curriculum and build students’ language arts skills as they develop knowledge about the world. Unit modules from EngageNY will be used to guide and focus the instruction of the Common Core curriculum for both grades. Eighth grade novels used to teach state standards include: Unbroken, Outsiders, House on Mango Street, Inside Out & Back Again. Students will also use the text to closely analyze theme, point of view, and claims and evidence in their writing. During each year, normally in April or May, all students will take the ELA 7 and ELA 8 NYS assessments.
