Position: Physical Therapist Aligned to: Saugerties Teachers’ AssociationImmediately Responsible to: Building Principal, Director of Special Education, Director of PPSMinimum Qualifications:Required: Must possess valid NYS Physical Therapist LicensurePhilosophical compatibility with the stated mission and goals of the School District Preferred: BilingualExperience with preschool students Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable. Job Summary or Functions: The Physical Therapist develops, implements, and coordinates the physical therapy program within the school. They will provide screening, evaluation, and intervention services to facilitate educational goals. The physical therapist is expected to problem solve effectively and demonstrate a high level of professional judgment when recommending and providing appropriate services, making environmental modifications and training staff to manage physical needs.Travel Requirements:Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required. Specific Responsibilities:Adheres to professional, ethical and legal standards of physical therapy practice.Develop and implement the physical therapy program to address needs of the students.Evaluates new referrals to determine need for service/appropriate level of service.Provides direct treatment to students on assigned caseload.Schedules assigned caseload in conjunction with classroom staff and other related services.Submits all written documentation in accordance with District policies. Must adhere to paperwork deadlines, agency forms, and content.Periodically reassesses student's progress toward goals/adjusts goals as necessary.Assesses student's need for equipment (in collaboration with educational staff).Responsible for recommending, and adapting equipment for assigned caseload.Communicates regularly with parents, classroom staff and related service personnel regarding individual student's program and progress.Select, administer and interpret a variety of screening instruments, and standardized tests and utilize skilled professional observation and evaluation.Interpret assessment findings and provide recommendations and appropriately convey information to parents and education team.Participate with education teams to develop IEP and 504 plans.Communicate and consult with school staff, parents, administrators, physicians, community and other professionals. Participates, when appropriate, in continuous professional growth.Attends CSE meetings to provide input relating to the child's therapy needs.Participates in staff meetings, team meetings, and parent/teacher conferences as indicated and follows building rules, procedures and district policies.Performs other appropriate job-related activities as requested by your supervisor.Ensures all required trainings and certifications required are current, and seeks further support and training where needed.Manage the facilities, materials and equipment, including assistive technology, necessary to the delivery of servicesPlan evidence-based interventions appropriate for individual students and groups of students Evaluation: The evaluation of the person filling this position is conducted by a certified administrator according to the current Bargaining Agreement and APPR plan.
