Position: Full Time Account ClerkEffective: June 1, 2023Rate of Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 / hr. General Statement of Duties: Performs difficult but routine account keeping, typing and clerical tasks; does related work as required. Distinguishing Features of the class: This is clerical work involving responsibility for the performance of a number of varied or unrelated tasks requiring ability to type and to apply standard account keeping practices. The work may require the occasional exercise of independent judgment in the application of prescribed procedures and methods to routine cases. Employees in this class may work under rather close or general supervision depending upon the mature of their assignment. The work of employees in this class is usually checked by another step in the process or by a superior. Examples of Work: (Illustrative Only)1) Reviews invoices for completeness relative to dates, supplies, purchase order number, discounts, etc.; 2) Prepares payroll distribution charges; 3) Computes salaries and deductions in connection with the weekly payroll; 4) Continuously balances route accounts, computes interest on deposits and prepares checks; 5) Computes final bills and either sends bill or refund check after reviewing credit ledger; 6) Inserts sheets in meter books upon new service order and prepares notice of stencil change for billing; 7) Assists in posting charges and credits to appropriate accounts; 8) Follows up accounts in arrears with form letters and report to collection agency; 9) Types accounting and statistical tables; 10) Performs a variety of account keeping tasks; 11) Sorts, indexes and files material alphabetically and numerically. Required Knowledge, Skill and Ability: Good knowledge of methods used in keeping financial accounts and records, office terminology, procedures and equipment, business arithmetic and English; knowledge of elementary bookkeeping; ability to type; ability to follow oral and written directions; ability to get along well with others; clerical aptitude; good judgment; neat appearance; tact and courtesy; good physical condition. Acceptable Experience and Training: One year of clerical experience some of which shall have been as an account clerk and graduation from a standard high school, including or supplemented by a course in typing; or any equivalent combination of experience and training sufficient to indicate ability to do the work.
