Position: Reading Teacher (4 year Probationary Tenure Track)Effective: September 1, 2022School: District wide.Requriements:• Must be NYS Literacy certified;• Certified in a Multisensory Reading Approach or willingness to be certified in a Multisensory Reading Approach Dual Certification;• Master’s Degree in Literacy;• Experience Teaching ENL Students;• Successful Teaching Experience;• Experience analyzing data to improve student achievement; and• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable. Job Summary or Functions:Facilitating student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through targeted literacy instruction. The Reading teacher will also serve as a resource to classroom teachers in supporting student needs. The reading teacher is responsible for implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students and by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc. Specific Responsibilities:1. Provide direct instruction in the areas of reading and writing for identified groups and individual students using researched-based methods including by not limited to a multisensory approach.2. Provide support and training for all teachers and continuous staff development that supports school initiatives.3. Select instructional materials to meet student needs.4. Assess students using a variety of measures to determine the appropriate placement and specific instructional needs.5. Observe students in the general class setting and provide recommendations to the classroom teacher6. Assist with the planning and delivery of workshops including parent workshops7. Participate in parent conferences and provide instructional suggestions 8. Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to student learning and supports District Goals.9. Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.10. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.11. Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.12. Supports student’s social-emotional needs. 13. Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops and/or professional/staff meetings.14. Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.15. Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.16. Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.17. Coordinates with other elementary professional staff members, especially within grade level, to evaluate and assess curriculum, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.18. Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.19. Supervises students in activities that take place out of the classroom during the school day, including activities involving school transportation.20. Administers standardized tests in accordance with District testing programs.21. Performs such additional duties as may be assigned by Supervisors.
