The Red Hook Central School District is seeking a NYS Certified Teaching Assistant to teach existing garden curriculum. Salary as per the RHFA bargaining agreement.Mill Road Elementary School is seeking a high energy, hard worker with a love of children and nature to fill a unique opportunity in outdoor education to teach grades PK-5 cross curricular lessons. Mill Road Elementary School has a ½ acre garden on school grounds that is used as an outdoor classroom for hands-on, experiential learning. The Garden Educator teaches lessons that include environmental stewardship, sustainability, and nutrition integrated with traditional subjects like Math, Science, ELA and the Arts. Winter classes are held inside the dedicated Science Classroom. The ideal candidate has experience in outdoor education, but a creative teacher or thoughtful gardener will be considered. Hours are Monday-Friday 8:30am-3:30pm September through June with the potential for working 1-2 days per week in July and August.Responsibilities include:Teach existing garden curriculum, and work creatively and independently to create new exciting lessonsCollaborate with part-time Garden Assistant to plan and maintain school gardenMaintain regular communication with teachers and documentation of program with teachers, garden committee, and administrators Recruit, train, and communicate with parent volunteers to maintain garden over the summer monthsAttend monthly Garden Committee meetings Maintain a budget of Garden Program fundsCommunicate with school community via newsletters, social media, and outreach eventsDevelop new initiatives and programs with community partnersPlan and manage fundraising opportunities (Maple Syrup Sale, Plant Sale, Raffles, etc.)Collaborate with Garden Committee to apply for grantsParticipate in occasional school-wide and community events (Orientation, Fall/Spring Harvest Festival, Apple Blossom Festival, Earth Day Celebration etc.) Applicants must hold a NYS Teaching Assistant certificate.
