Mill Road Elementary School is seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated, and highly skilled Library Media Specialist to serve our PK through second grade students. Responsibilities The Library Media Specialist will be responsible for designing and delivering engaging, developmentally appropriate library instruction for students in PreKindergarten through second grade. Core responsibilities include the following: · Plan and deliver dynamic library lessons that foster a genuine love of reading, storytelling, and literature across all PK-2 grade levels · Curate and maintain a diverse, inclusive, and age-appropriate library collection that reflects the identities, interests, and curiosity of our students and community · Design and facilitate STEAM-integrated activities that connect literacy with science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics in meaningful and accessible ways · Collaborate closely with classroom teachers and grade-level teams to align library instruction with curriculum goals, units of study, and student learning needs · Support students in developing research skills, digital literacy, and information fluency appropriate to their developmental level · Create a welcoming, print-rich library environment that invites exploration and celebrates books and reading · Partner with school leadership to develop and continuously improve the library program in alignment with current best practices in literacy and library education · Maintain and manage library systems, resources, and technology to ensure the collection remains current, organized, and accessible · Communicate regularly with families about library programming, reading recommendations, and ways to support literacy at home Qualifications · New York State certification in Library Media Specialist (School Building Level) required · Experience working with early childhood or elementary-aged students strongly preferred · Demonstrated knowledge of best instructional practices in literacy, library education, and early childhood learning · Hands-on, collaborative approach to teaching with the ability to build genuine relationships with students, staff, and families · Strong understanding of and enthusiasm for STEAM integration in a library setting · Commitment to fostering an inclusive and culturally responsive library program · Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills · Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative school community
