About the Role Red Door Learning Centers is seeking a full-time Director of Preschool Special Education. The Director of Special Education provides visionary leadership and ensures programmatic compliance for a center-based preschool special education program. This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of program implementation in accordance with IDEA, state/county regulations, and district policies. The Director serves as the primary liaison to school districts and regulatory agencies, ensuring accurate documentation for compliance and program evaluation, including oversight of the CPSE Portal for Medicaid billing and IEP management. Work Location: 535 S. Franklin Street, Hempstead, NY 11550Work Setting: On-site KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Program Leadership & Compliance Ensure the preschool special education program complies with IDEA, state/county regulations, and district policies.Develop and implement policies and procedures that align with special education laws and best practices.Lead in the ongoing evaluation of instructional methods, programs, and materials, and recommend changes and improvements as necessary.Implement procedures for children that include special education referrals, evaluation, and placement for students who may require special education.Serve as the main liaison with school districts, state education agencies, and other regulatory bodies.Create class profiles for program placement.Organize referrals and conduct student screenings for program consideration.Maintain accurate records, reports, and data for compliance and program evaluation.Assist in monitoring/maintaining records for the CPSE Portal for Medicaid Billing with Nassau County.Monitor prescriptions for related services.Monitor IEPs in IEP Direct.Collaborate with the MDE team to coordinate initial evaluations. Instructional & Staff Development Provide support for special education teachers and related service providers in implementing evidence-based instructional strategies.Design and provide in-service professional development and coaching on behavior management, differentiated instruction, and inclusive practices.Conduct staff evaluations and provide ongoing feedback to enhance instructional quality.Promote collaboration between general and special education staff to foster inclusive classrooms.Assist teachers and therapeutic staff in developing IEP PLEPs, Goals, and Annual Reports.Ensure appropriate staffing and service delivery based on student needs and IEP.Family & Community EngagementBuild strong relationships with families, ensuring clear communication, responsiveness, and transparency.Address parent concerns, facilitate resolution of disputes, and promote a culture of trust and collaboration.Partner with families to ensure they understand their rights, services, and the IEP process.Organize workshops and training for parents on early childhood special education topics.Develop partnerships with community agencies to enhance student support services. Student Support & Case Management Collaborate with districts to schedule and operate annual review meetings.Oversee the IEP process, ensuring timely evaluations, meetings, and implementation of servicesMonitor student progress and adjust interventions as needed.Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop individualized strategies for student success.Data AnalysisAnalyze program data to identify trends, needs, and areas for improvement.Monitor student progress through data collection and analysis, using insights to inform instruction and interventions. Budget & Resource Management Advocate for funding and resources to support preschoolers with disabilities.Develop and manage the special education department budget, including federal and state grant funding. Make recommendations and provide oversight of expenditure.Allocate staffing, materials, and other resources to meet student needs equitably and efficiently. QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field required, Master's degree preferred.Minimum 7 years’ experience working as a NYS Certified Professional in Special Education, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.Certification: School District Administrator (SDA), School District Leader (SDL), or certification in Special Education, School Psychologist, School Social Work, or any of the Student with Disabilities areas in Pupil Personnel (OT, PT, Speech).Experience chairing CPSE/CSE meetings.Strong knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and state-specific special education laws and procedures; excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to lead and motivate a team.
