The Poland Central School District is accepting applications fort a Transportation Supervisor (preferred), Interim Transportation Supervisor, or Head Bus Driver, depending on qualifications. The successful candidate will be appointed no sooner than November 20, 2025.RESPONSIBILITIES: shall include but not be limited to:1. Planning and overseeing the safe and efficient operation of the district’s transportation program. 2. Supervision of the maintenance and repair of buses and other district vehicles.3. Coordination of all regular, extra-curricular, athletic, summer school, BOCES and special education transportation.4. Coordination of scheduling, training, testing, and evaluating of drivers.5. Supervision of bus drivers and other staff assigned to the transportation function TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative Only)Annually assists in laying out school bus routes;Periodically changes bus routes to meet needs of district;Investigates and answers complaints concerning bus routes;Instructs bus drivers concerning safety rules and regulations;Instructs new bus drivers in operation of a school bus;Prepares all necessary transportation reports and maps of the bus routes;Interviews new bus drivers and presents applications to Board of Education;Arranges for substitute bus drivers;Confers with and checks the work of mechanics and helpers and lays out schedule of Maintenance work;Checks all transportation purchases and bills;Maintains records of materials and supplies used, employee time, mileage and number of pupils carried;Arranges for all special bus trips;Assists in preparation of the annual budget and preparing specifications for new equipment;May drive school bus regular route; substitute and make special trips as required;May lead in preforming a variety of repairs to buses, automobiles, trucks, tractors, and other school machinery and equipment. FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Thorough knowledge of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law and the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education regarding school bus operation; thorough knowledge of standard school district transportation practices and the operation of school buses; thorough knowledge of standard safety practices related to school district transportation programs; thorough knowledge of the location and names of roads within the district; ability to establish bus routes and assign drivers to routes; ability to plan, supervise and evaluate the work of others; ability to maintain records and prepare reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of people; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to resolve complaints; ability to operate a school bus under all driving and road conditions; ability to travel; tact and courtesy; capable of performing the essential job functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS HEAD BUS DRIVER: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and two years of experience in the operation or repair of school buses.Special Requirement:1. Possession of a valid appropriate class New York State Commercial Driver’s License and the motor vehicle license endorsement or endorsements required to operate a school bus with the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) the appointee will be required to drive. Note 1: School Bus Drivers who operate a school bus having a GVWR of 26,000 pounds or less must possess a valid New York State Commercial Driver’s License C (CDL-C) with a “P” (passenger) endorsement. School Bus Drivers who operate a school bus that has a seating capacity of 16 or more adults including the driver, or a school bus having a GVWR of more than 26,000 pounds must possess a valid New York State Commercial Driver’s License B (CDL-B) with a “P” (passenger) and a “S” (school bus) endorsement.Note 2: At time of appointment and continuing throughout employment, an appointee/incumbent must have a driving record acceptable to the employing school district’s insurance carrier.Starting level salary is negotiable. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS TRANSPORTATION SUPERVISOR: EITHER(A) Possession of an Associate’s Degree and two years of full-time paid work experience or its part-time equivalent in one or more components of a large scale transportation system, e.g. operations, scheduling, dispatching, automotive repair or maintenance, driving a bus on assigned routes, etc., which included or was supplemented by two years of supervisory experience; OR(B) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and four years of full-time paid work experience or its part-time equivalent in one or more components of a large scale transportation system, e.g. operations, scheduling, dispatching, automotive repair or maintenance, driving a bus on assigned routes, etc., which included or was supplemented by two years of supervisory experience; OR(C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above. Note: Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. At time of appointment an appointee to this position must possess a valid New York State Class D or higher Driver License. 2. At time of appointment and continuing throughout employment an appointee/incumbent must possess a driving record acceptable to the employing school district’s insurance carrier. 3. Following appointment an incumbent must obtain a valid New York State Commercial Driver’s License Class B (CDL-B) or higher (CDL-A) with a “P” (Passenger Transport) and “S” (School Bus) Endorsement that does not have L or L2 Airbrake Restriction, and must maintain such Driver’s License and Driver’s License Endorsements throughout employment in the position. 4. Following appointment an incumbent will be required to satisfy the requirements for School Bus Driver set forth in the Rules and Regulations of the New York State Commissioner of Education and the New York State Vehicle& Traffic Law and thereafter will be required to maintain all such requirements for a school bus driver throughout employment in the position.5. Following appointment an incumbent must become a New York State Department of Motor Vehicles Article 19-A Certified Examiner and must thereafter maintain such Article 19-A Certified Examiner status.
