Duties: Putnam|Northern Westchester BOCES is anticipating the need for a full-time Special Education Teacher for the 2023-2024 School Year. This is a grade 6-8 position that will serve students diagnosed with autism spectrum and related communicative and developmental disorders. Applicants must have knowledge and experience working with this population who have a wide range of academic, behavioral, and social challenges. Program implementation is provided through a collaborative model with a Speech/Language Pathologist. Successful candidates must possess a strong understanding of teaching strategies inclusive of strategies (including ABA and TEACCH practices) for instructing students with autism, modifying curriculum, differentiating instruction and classroom management skills. Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration with team members and families is essential. Duties will also include developing and implementing IEPs, monitoring and assessing student progress, differentiating instruction per student needs and fostering a collaborative team setting. The successful candidate will also maintain regular contact with local school district representatives and parents, perform educational assessments as requested and utilize data to inform instruction.Qualifications: Appropriate New York State Education Department certification in Special Education K-12 or Students with Disabilities.Characteristics Desired: Ability to supervise classroom team. Experience working with students with autism. Experience working collaboratively with therapists and clinicians. Knowledge of the annual review process. Candidates must be organized, flexible and have effective written communication and problem-solving skills.
