Duties: Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES is seeking a Teacher of the Blind and Visually Impaired to provide assessment and direct services in both push-in and pull-out models to students with disabilities, including autism, emotional disturbance, and receptive language disorders. The candidate must have a knowledge of Braille, including embossing and instruction in Braille. The successful candidate will serve as an active member of the students’ educational and therapeutic team, maintaining contact with local school district representatives and parents and will prepare formal reports as required. Develop and follow the IEP goals and assess student progress. Perform vision assessments as requested and ensure proper use and maintenance of equipment.Qualifications: Must hold valid New York State certification as a Teacher of Blind and Visually Impaired (TVI)Characteristics Desired: Extensive knowledge of instructional approaches for students with autism, emotional/behavioral disorders and/or multiple disabilities. Must be driven, organized and have the ability to positively manage students. Candidates must be highly organized, flexible, and able to work in a multi-disciplinary team and have effective communication and problem-solving skills. Successful candidates must have a positive, can-do attitude and be committed to the BOCES Mission of Service and Innovation through Partnership.
