Duties: PNW BOCES anticipates the need for a Full-Time Supervisor of Special Education/Principal. This is an exciting leadership opportunity for an exceptional school administrator. The Supervisor of Special Education will serve as the Principal of The Walden School. The Walden School supports students in three separate programs. The Learning Center (LC) program supports state assessed students grades K-8 who struggle with social, emotional and/or learning challenges. The Collaborative Language Academics and Social Skills (CLASS) program supports alternately assessed students with significant developmental and/or communication challenges who are often diagnosed with ASD. The Intensive Day Treatment Program (ITSP) provides a short-term placement for students K-6 in transition between hospital and school and/or experiencing acute temporary social/emotional challenges. The supervisor will work with a team of highly qualified student centered special educators, school clinicians, learning specialists, related service providers, crisis professionals, paraprofessionals, and administrators.4-year Probationary Appointment; Tenure Area: Supervisor of Special EducationQualifications:The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge of and particular affinity for the education of students with disabilities;Proven ability as a special education leader with knowledge of effective instructional practices for students with disabilities;Sound professional judgement and an ability to develop/implement systemic interventions and supports based on school-wide data and aligned to the PNW BOCES and SE Department mission, vision and core values.Be an innovative planner and problem solver and an effective communicator who has developed positive relationships with colleagues, faculty, staff, students and parents;Expertise in staff supervision and evaluation with knowledge of APPR process is required;Candidate must possess a degree in special education or related field as well as New York State administrative certification (SAS, SDA, SBL, SDL);Competitive salary and benefits.Characteristics Desired: Previous experience as an administrator of programs for students with disabilities desired. Candidate must be highly organized, conversant in use of educational technology, data-based decision making and systems development, and have effective communication skills.
