We are committed to providing a dynamic learning environment and fostering a love for science in our students.Job Summary:The Middle School Astronomy Teacher will be responsible for developing and delivering engaging astronomy curriculum to middle school students. This includes creating lesson plans, conducting hands-on activities, and utilizing technology to enhance learning, especially within a planetarium setting. The successful candidate will foster a stimulating and inclusive classroom environment that encourages scientific inquiry and critical thinking.Responsibilities:Develop and implement engaging lesson plans and teaching materials that align with state standards and school curriculum.Provide instruction and guidance to middle school students in various astronomy topics, from planetary science to cosmology.Utilize technology effectively in a planetarium setting to enhance student learning and exploration of astronomical phenomena.Design and administer assessments to evaluate student understanding and progress.Monitor student behavior and enforce classroom rules to maintain a safe and productive learning environment.Communicate effectively with students, parents, and administrators regarding student progress and concerns.Collaborate with other teachers and staff to integrate interdisciplinary approaches in teaching.Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on teaching techniques and advancements in astronomy.Qualifications:Valid New York State Earth Science or General Science Teacher Certification.Proven experience teaching middle school students is preferred.Working knowledge of how to use technology in a planetarium is strongly encouraged.Excellent communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills.Ability to motivate and engage students in scientific exploration.Strong knowledge base in astronomy content.Commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse learning environment.
