We are seeking a passionate and skilled educator to lead and expand our growing Computer Science program.Position OverviewPort Chester High School is seeking a dynamic, innovative, and dedicated Computer Science Teacher for the 2025-2026 academic year. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of computer science principles and a passion for teaching programming, cybersecurity, and advanced curricula to a diverse student body. This teacher will be responsible for delivering engaging and rigorous instruction across a range of courses, including introductory programming, cybersecurity, AP Computer Science Principles, and AP Computer Science A. The goal is to empower students with the critical thinking, problem-solving, and computational skills necessary for the 21st century.Key ResponsibilitiesInstruction and Curriculum:Design and deliver engaging lesson plans for a variety of computer science courses.Teach foundational and advanced programming concepts, potentially including languages such as Python, Java, and web development frameworks (HTML/CSS, JavaScript).Teach the curriculum for AP Computer Science A (Java-based) and AP Computer Science Principles, preparing students for success on the AP exams.Develop and teach an engaging curriculum in cybersecurity, covering topics like network security, ethical hacking, and data privacy.Utilize project-based learning to foster creativity, collaboration, and real-world problem-solving skills.Classroom Management:Foster a safe, inclusive, and collaborative classroom environment that encourages student inquiry and participation.Effectively manage classroom resources, including computer labs and software.Student Assessment and Growth:Assess and monitor student progress through formative and summative assessments, providing timely and constructive feedback.Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners, from beginners to advanced students.Collaboration and Community:Collaborate with colleagues in the technology, math, and science departments to create interdisciplinary learning opportunities.Serve as a potential advisor for technology-related extracurricular activities, such as a Coding Club, Cybersecurity Club, or Robotics Team.Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school administration regarding student progress and curriculum goals.Stay current with the latest trends and best practices in computer science education and industry.QualificationsRequired:Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.Valid New York State teaching certification in Technology Education, Computer Science, or Mathematics (or demonstrated eligibility for certification).Demonstrated knowledge of programming languages, particularly Java (for AP CSA) and Python.Strong understanding of fundamental cybersecurity principles.A passion for working with high school students and a commitment to equity and inclusivity.Preferred:Master’s degree in Computer Science, Education, or a related field.Prior experience teaching high school computer science, especially AP Computer Science A and/or AP Computer Science Principles.Professional industry experience in software development, cybersecurity, or a related tech field.Experience with curriculum development and project-based learning.Familiarity with sponsoring student clubs or competition teams (e.g., CyberPatriot, FIRST Robotics).Why Join Us?A supportive and collaborative professional working environment.Opportunities for professional development and growth.A diverse and engaged student body.Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package as per the Port Chester Teachers Association (PCTA) contract.
