City School District of New RochelleEmbracing Diversity: Driving SuccessThe City School District of New Rochelle is seeking a Music Teacher for a full time probationary Elementary Instrumental Music (Strings) Teaching Position. Reports to: Director of PK-12 Performing & Visual Arts, Elementary School & Building PrincipalsPerformance Responsibilities:Plans, develops and carries out a quality program of sequential instruction in string orchestra for elementary school orchestra students through lessons and classes in both small and large ensemble settings at assigned elementary schoolsPresents periodic concerts to the school and community featuring the orchestral ensembles.Maintains appropriate records of student achievement for all students assigned to classes in the orchestra program.Recruits prospective string orchestra students in elementary schools to enroll in orchestra programs.Collaborates with department colleagues to maintain and enhance a quality string orchestra program.Communicates with parents/guardians of orchestra students on a regular basis.Facilitates the students’ and the director’s participation in county, state and national programs through WCSMA, NYSSMA, NAfME and WCALA as appropriate.Works with building and district administration to develop appropriate achievement goals for students in each of the orchestral ensembles.Aligns instruction with the National/State Standards.Collaborates with colleagues within and outside the arts department in New Rochelle schools on school or district initiatives.Perform such other duties as directed by the Director of PK-12 Performing & Visual Arts and Building PrincipalsQualifications:Holds New York State Certification in MusicDemonstrated excellence in teachingDemonstrated knowledge of musical repertoire appropriate for elementary school orchestral ensembles (small and large)Superior organizational skillsUnderstands successful techniques for motivating elementary school studentsProfessional performance proficiency on a string instrument (violin, viola, cello or bass)Ability to demonstrate a reasonable facility/understanding of the customary performance techniques on the other string instrumentsDemonstrated computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, databases and music software programs as neededMust be NYS Certified in MusicEOE: Minority candidates are encouraged to applyBilingual candidates are encouraged to applyPlease do not send resumes to Human Resources.
