The Department of Special Education at Nassau BOCES is seeking a Teacher of the Blind and Visually Impaired. Responsibilities include:Assess each student’s vision skills to determine current level of functioning and the need for vision services Develop instructional support services and products for low vision and blind studentsEvaluate student’s progress and submit written evaluation reports. Identify and support the use of specific vision related assistive technologyMaintain daily log/session notesWrite IEP goals and attend CSE meetings Establish and maintain effective relationships with colleagues, district personnel, students, and parents. Perform related duties as required REQUIREMENTS: New York State Education Department Certification: Teacher of the Blind and Visually Impaired is requiredKnowledge, experience, and expertise working with students who require vision servicesKnowledge of Expanded Core curriculum, vision technology, orientation and mobility along with excellent written, verbal and communication skills are preferred
