RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach a comprehensive middle school general music curriculum aligned with the NYS Arts Learning Standards Design and deliver sequential, developmentally appropriate instruction in general music concepts through ensemble-based music-making, percussion, world drumming, ukulele, other classroom instruments and music technology, including Soundtrap. Integrate listening, performing, creating, and responding into daily instruction Utilize music technology to enhance student creativity, collaboration, and engagement Collaborate and coordinate closely with other general music teachers to ensure curricular alignment, consistency, and vertical articulation Differentiate instruction to support students with diverse learning needs (ENL, IEP, 504, etc.) while fostering a classroom environment that is safe, welcoming, affirming, and well-managed Establish clear routines and expectations that promote positive student behavior and active participation POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: Successful teaching experience in middle school general music or a related music education setting Strong knowledge of middle school general music pedagogy and curriculum design Proficiency with music technology tools Demonstrated ability to create engaging, culturally responsive, and student-centered learning experiences Strong classroom management skills appropriate for the middle school learner Strong communication and interpersonal skills Possession of appropriate New York State Music Teacher Certification REPORTS TO: Building Principal Ethnically, culturally, and linguistically diverse candidates are welcome and encouraged to apply.
