POSITION SUMMARY: The School Counselor/Social Worker will provide supportive counseling, consultation, and services to the linguistically, racially, and ethnically diverse Lexington students, their families, and the community at large. PRIMARY DUTIES: Provide individual counseling as mandated on the IEP for students ages 3-21 years old.Provide counseling and support on an as needed basisKeep up to date charts for assigned caseloadProvide family counseling on an as needed basisFacilitate psychoeducational and therapeutic groupsConsult with educational staffWrite Mental Health Evaluations and Social Histories for referralsEvaluate psychiatric emergencies (suicide evaluations)Participate in team meetings and in-service trainingsProvide information for entitlement servicesWork in collaboration with the school to develop and modify programCollaborate with community agenciesPerform additional job duties as assigned by supervisor REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and administratorsAbility to establish rapport and professional relationships with students and familiesExcellent time management, planning, and organizational skills EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Masters Degree in Social Work or CounselingMust possess relevant state or nationally recognized professional certification/licensure (such as NYS LMSW/LCSW or NCC/LMHC) or attain within one year of employmentKnowledge of child and adolescent developmentCounseling experienceAbility to communicate in American Sign Language (ASL) SECURITY CLEARANCE: Required clearances include medical clearance, fingerprinted by the NYC Board of Ed, SCR, and SEL clearance PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computerProlonged periods of walking in and around the buildingMust be able to lift 15 pounds at times
