Position: Steam TeacherDivision: Curriculum and InstructionSupervisor: Lower/Upper School PrincipalSupervises: Lower School Instructional AssistantsPosition Type: 10 month positionHours: Monday to Friday: 7:55 a.m.-4:00 p.m.FLSA Status: Exempt SUMMARYThe duties and responsibilities of the STEAM teacher involve instruction directly related to STEAM and computer science. Related duties shall be inspired by the International Society for Technology in Education Standards. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIESPromoting collaboration among students across disciplines to develop projects or challenges.Designing activities that use data to address real-world issues.Helping students apply higher-order thinking skills to open-ended problems.Allowing students to design and innovate.Demonstrate the ability to model, deliver, and craft rich student-centered learning experiences around Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math. Demonstrate the ability to create and implement strategies for weaving STEAM experiences into multi-disciplinary curricula.Work in partnership with staff, modeling consistent effective teaching with technology, engagement, lesson plan design, use of technology, STEAM and online tools when necessary.REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIESNew York State Certification-Deaf Education or Special Education Experience working with deaf students American Sign Language (ASL) proficiencyPreferred knowledge of Thinking Maps and SchoologyCompassionate and Passionate; Results-driven and goal orientedExcellent classroom management skills. Provide positive behavior intervention with supportEffective interpersonal communication skills with colleagues, parents, and studentsMaster’s degreeStrong Google Apps for Education skills (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Sites, etc). Experience (or familiarity with) tools such as, but not limited to: 3D printing, autocad, laser cutting, vinyl cutting, Arduino, Makey-Makey, Codecademy, Sphero, Tynker, BeeBot, Parrot MiniDroneKnowledge of ISTE, NET-S and Next Generation StandardsEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEMaster’s degree in Deaf Education or related field.New York State Teaching Certification.SECURITY CLEARANCERequired clearances include medical clearance, fingerprinted by the NYC Board of Ed and SCR and SEL clearance.PHYSCIAL REQUIREMENTProlonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.AVAILABLE September 2022DEADLINEUntil filled
