The Locust Valley Central School District is looking for a Special Education Teacher Assistant (Elementary) to join our team, working with teachers in providing exceptional services and support for our students.Duties and Responsibilities:Working with individual pupils or groups of pupils on special instructional projects.Providing the teacher with information about pupils that will assist the teacher in the development of appropriate learning experiences.Assisting pupils in the use of available instructional resources (in support of student's IEPs)Assisting in the development of instructional materials.Providing direct instructional support to students under the general supervision of a certified teacher.Working as a member of a team in the classroom where the teacher has ultimate responsibility for developing and planning the educational program.Supporting students’ recreation, motor, vocational, socialization and communication, leisure and motor skills through the use of behavior analytic teaching procedures.Work Hours and Benefits:This position is a part-time position with work hours during school days. This is an hourly position. Salary is based on experience and education. This role does not offer benefits.Qualifications:Experience as a Teacher Assistant.Special Education experience is preferred.Experience working with special needs students (e.g., physical, behavioral, or developmental). Help students learn important life skills.Familiarity with school administrative tasks and learning methods.Proven leadership, organizational, written, and oral communication skills.Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and other school staff.A love for teaching and the ability to build a trusting relationship with students, teachers and parents.Ability to engage students of all learning levels and grade levels.Patience and empathy.Compassionate, positive and encouraging attitude.Creative mindset offering input into developing educational activities. Training and Education:Applicants have certification as a teacher's assistant.Salary:Hourly rate starting at $19.02.
