The LaSalle School is seeking an Science Teacher, Physical Science/Earth Science (Full-Time Exempt, 35hrs per week, 10-month/School Calendar). This position will report to the Director of Educational Services.Our ideal candidate is energetic; possess capability to demonstrate content related techniques and assess student skills in the subject area(s); knowledge of NYS and Federal Education Regulations; strong communication & organizational skills; ability to work effectively with a team of professionals to contribute positively to our therapeutic environment and support each student’s progress in all areas of his placement; ability to work with a diverse population of students; ability to work in a trauma informed environment.Job Responsibilities (only illustrative and not all inclusive):To provide Science instruction to senior high school students and to fulfill non-instructional related tasksLead and instruct a minimum of five designated classes as assignedImplement behavioral management strategies to support students in meeting classroom expectationsIncorporate identified techniques and strategies listed in student IEPs, ICMPs, etc. to support learningPlan and submit lesson plans aligned to current NYS Standards while accommodating student’s IEP needsUtilize a variety of instructional strategies to increase student engagementParticipate in professional development opportunities to continue to increase skillset in your assigned content area and special education instructionBe aware of NYSED state exams and testing requirements in order to provide targeted test preparationProgress monitor academic and behavior goals as required per student’s IEPsCollaborate with and support the overall science department at LaSalle schoolFollow guidelines outlined in the faculty handbook & Code of ConductCommunicate information about student concerns or other pertinent issues to your direct supervisorBe a resource to other educators, parents and agency staffParticipate actively in content-area department meetings and faculty meetingsParticipate in non-instructional activities, such as, but not limited to special events such as PBIS activities & celebrations, graduation, open house etc.Provide appropriate supervision to all studentsMinimum Qualifications (Experience & Education):Required: Bachelor's degree and NYS Teacher Certification in One or more subject areas: Earth Science 7-12, General Science 7-12, Chemistry 7-12, Biology 7-12 as well as command of the content area.Preferred: Master's degree and NYS Teacher Certification in One or more subject areas: Earth Science 7-12, General Science 7-12, Chemistry 7-12, Biology 7-12 as well as command of the content area.Highly suggested to have experience with Special Education students (JH/HS level) and/or hold Special Education certificationCommitment to support the agency's LaSallaen Mission and ValuesMission: Through a dedicated and capable community of staff and associates, inspired by the faith and vision of Saint John Baptist de LaSalle, LaSalle School provides therapeutic, educational and supportive services designed to accomplish positive, personal growth and lasting change in the lives of youth and families in need.At LaSalle School, we are committed to working with youth who are at jeopardy as a result of serious concerns for safety, well-being, and permanency.
