Qualifications - Required:High School Diploma or equivalentDriver Safety Certificate, Clean NYS Driver’s LicenseExperience with adolescent population.First Aid, CPRCommitment to LaSalle School mission and philosophy.Knowledge of basic education, recreation, and behavior management strategies.Qualifications - Desired:Associates degree or equivalentBachelor’s degree in related field.Experience with after-school programs.Experience in field of juvenile justice.Reports to: JRFC Program Manager LSSOther Sources of Work Direction: Director of JRFCOverview of Position:The Youth Development Specialists introduces skills, activities, and opportunities to at-risk male adolescents tapping into their strengths and fostering appropriate relationships, helping them become successful members of their community. This position provides direct supervision of the participants, monitoring behavior, motivation, attendance and safety within the Juvenile Reporting and Family Center (JRFC). This early intervention program provides youth with a supervised, structured array of enrichment recreational activities during high-risk evening hours. This position reports to work 3-4 Days a Week, from 3:00 pm-9:00 pm. General responsibilities include supervising program participants, completing the necessary documentation, providing progress feedback, and perform TCI strategies when required.General Responsibilities/Duties:Supervision of participants and program delivery.Completing necessary documentation.Assist each participant's appropriate engagement in program.Provide feedback on progress, reinforce appropriate behaviors and positive effort.Maintain safe, orderly environment.Conduct groups, lessons, activities per daily schedule.Tend to the appropriate use of facility, equipment and supplies.Adhere to agency home transportation routine and fulfill responsibilities of assigned role.Annual Training Requirements: First Aid, CPR , TCIOther Annual Requirements:(ie: Physical, insurance certificates, license renewal) Defensive DriversNecessary Job Skills:Active supervision, with a keen eye for issues which could lead to conflict.Ability to implement effective intervention strategies to de-escalate behavior. Implement TCI, including LSI as taught at LSS.Good oral, written, and non-verbal communication skills. Able to use active listening to foster youth communication.Ability to work as a member of a service delivery team.Ability to provide assistance with homework, academic skill development, recreational activities, social skills development.Ability to maintain positive environment which supports positive engagement of participants and their parents.
