Location: John Jay High School Anticipated Start Date: June 1, 2026 Hours: Full-Time; 10 months Salary and Benefits: $47,148 as per the KLSSA Contract Qualifications: High School Diploma and Teaching Assistant Certification are required. Some college coursework or experience working with adolescents in educational settings is preferred. Responsibilities: The High School Teaching Assistant supports classroom teachers in delivering effective instruction and fostering a positive learning environment for students in grades 9-12. Responsibilities include assisting with lesson preparation, providing individual or small group support to students, monitoring classroom activities, and helping to manage classroom behavior. The Teaching Assistant may also aid in grading assignments, organizing instructional materials, supervising students during non-instructional periods, and collaborating with teachers to support diverse learner needs. The Teaching Assistant may also assist the building in providing critical coverage for programs such as monitoring the testing center and implementing accommodations found in students’ IEP or 504 plans. Strong communication skills, patience, and a genuine interest in helping students succeed are essential. The role may require flexibility to assist in various subjects, or support students with special educational needs and other duties as assigned, consistent with provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
