The Deputy Superintendent is key to articulating, prioritizing, and manifesting a clear vision of a comprehensive K-12 program, ensuring that all district students meet and exceed the New York State Standards. A critical function of the Deputy Superintendent is connecting and aligning service provisions across the K-12 continuum with increased accountability for results from all aspects of the district. The Deputy Superintendent is charged with effectively leveraging the expertise of all personnel.The Deputy Superintendent is responsible for leading and overseeing the planning, assessment, accountability, reporting, and evaluation of all activities of the provision of education-related services to students, including, but not limited to, instruction, curricula design, professional development, budget resources, leadership development, and school improvement efforts. The Deputy Superintendent provides leadership and supervision of building principals (formal evaluation consistent with APPR provisions), academic administrators, and relevant district-level administrators to achieve and maintain the best possible educational program and services, aligned with all aspects of the Portrait of a Learner and Portrait of an Employee and consistent with the District’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values. The Deputy Superintendent also provides leadership to coordinate efforts regarding instructional support, including, but not limited to, special education, ENL, and AIS; curriculum development, student services; instructional technology; federal programs; and professional development provisions. Most importantly, the Deputy Superintendent has the authority to utilize the expertise of all personnel to ensure the provision of high-quality education that lends to growth and value-added performance and impacts student learning. The Deputy Superintendent is authorized to execute the duties of the Superintendent in her/his absence.Job Summary: This position is intended to assist the Superintendent of Schools by providing leadership and vision in establishing goals, planning, development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of the curriculum and instructional programs, leadership development, and leading school improvement initiatives in the District. Qualifications:A valid NYS School District Administrator (SDA) or School District Leader (SDL) certificate is required.A doctoral degree is preferred; the minimum requirement is a Master’s degree with substantial coursework in curriculum and supervision.A minimum of five years experience in administration and supervision at the district level is preferred; other administrative experience at the district/building level will be considered as deemed appropriate to the responsibilities of this position.Extensive knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, and current trends of school administration, curriculum development, and program design.Hyde Park CSD seeks culturally proficient individuals with extensive knowledge of personnel administration's principles, practices, methods, and current trends.Primary Activities:Coordinates the district's development, implementation, and evaluation of instructional programs and curriculum aligned with the New York State Learning Standards.Leads continuous improvement plans and goals, builds data systems to support school improvement efforts, and ensures the data-driven decision-making processes are embedded throughout the District.Supervises the curriculum in the District and its connection to the mission and vision.Direct oversight and management of instructional budget and grants.Assist the Superintendent with the administration of the school district daily.Responsibilities:Exercise authority to utilize the expertise of all personnel to ensure the provision of high-quality education, including, but not limited to, growth and value-added performance and impact on student learning.Directly supervise and lead the instructional K-12 directors.Share responsibility with the Superintendent for evaluating principals per New York State Education Department regulations.Complete observations of directors and support staff.Coordinate in-service professional development opportunities aligned with the District’s mission, vision, and core values.Work with administrators and instructional staff to recommend district instructional program changes, including rationale and data to support proposals.Assist administrative and teaching staff in making data-driven curricular changes and purchasing and preparing curricular materials for all levels.Work with staff to ensure vertical and horizontal continuity and articulation of the instructional program throughout the District.Collaborates directly with Human Resources to lead and oversee the link between curriculum, instructional programs, and human resources.Lead and oversee hiring instructional personnel, including final interviews and recommendations for appropriate employment actions.Works with Human Resources to ensure the assignment of personnel and execution of annual professional performance appraisals, including, but not limited to, teacher and principal APPR.Collaborates with Human Resources to provide and support high-quality professional development in a targeted manner that will lead to district-wide improvement of instructional programs and practices.Assist in identifying faculty and administrators to attend conferences and meetings planned for program development and professional growth.Supervise and support the development of instructional administrators’ budgets.Secure funds for district personnel and instructional programs, including, but not limited to, Federal and State grants.Meets with the Board of Education Policy Committee to bring recommendations for all policies relative to the responsibilities of the Deputy Superintendent.Supervise K-12 testing programs and report results to the Board of Education and the public.Lead administrator in APPR, including the development and negotiations of the plan and contractual agreements necessary.Coordinate all mandatory training for District staff.Prepare all necessary reports for the Board of Education.Assist Superintendent in grievance, arbitration, and court matters as needed.Direct and develop grant proposals for federal funding.Lead Facilitator/Coordinator:Academic Intervention Services CommitteeHome Instruction ProgramDiversity training and awarenessK-12 Instructional CouncilCo-curricular CommitteeDistrict Leadership TeamCommunication/Public Relations:Assist school-community relations and activities by assuring appropriate dissemination of information to the general public.Maintain positive and routine public presence and relations with families, businesses, and community groups to provide information and receive feedback regarding the District.Lead and provide oversight of the development of partnerships to support programs and opportunities for students and staff, with a focus on innovation and evidence-based practices.Assist the Superintendent with BOCES and higher education partnerships and P-16 initiatives.Oversight of the District’s Statewide Universal Pre-K program, including assessment, contracts, and application.Other:Serve on behalf of the Superintendent in her/his absence.Attend meetings of the Board of Education.Support and perform all other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.
