Interim Principal at Gardner Road Elementary School QUALIFICATIONS:New York State SBL certification, additional SDL, SAS, or SDA preferred;Earned Master’s Degree;Experience in teaching or administration totaling at least five years. REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent SUPERVISES: Students, office staff, teachers, social workers, teaching assistants, aides, monitors, and any other professional staff members assigned to the elementary school JOB GOALS: Promote the educational success of students and staff through leadership in curriculum, instruction, assessment, and operations. RESPONSIBILITIES:Works closely with the Educational Support Office in the development, implementation, and evaluation of elementary level curricula, instruction, and assessments.Is responsible for compliant, effective, and efficient school-based operations that promote safety and wellness for students and staff in the school. Maintains fair and equitable standards in student discipline.Provides leadership and supervision in establishing programs and activities designed to foster positive relationships among students and between students and staff, meet the social-emotional and academic needs of students. Along with the Student Services Office, directs the coordination of instruction between special and classroom teachers in meeting the needs of students with disabilities and 504 accommodations.Responsible for the observing, evaluating, counseling, and motivating of staff and students that are directly supervised so as to improve their performance.Is visible in the building, district, and community. Actively participating and encouraging staff and student participation in community, PTA/PTO, or other such groups’ activities as a means of developing understanding, cooperation, and respect for school objectives and activities. Regularly communicates with staff and families on such opportunities and the events of the building.Supervises the construction of the building’s budget. Within the framework of budget allotments ensures proper/timely requisitions, receipt of delivery, and distribution of supplies, textbooks, equipment, and materials in the building.As the chief faculty advisor, responsible for the program of extra-class, co-curricular, and extra-curricular activities in the building.Supervises the development of a building calendar, creates the master schedule, and is responsible for the assignment of students to teachers.Plans and conducts building faculty meetings and other building meetings as required and/or needed.Assists the Assistant Superintendent and Director of Human Resources in staffing needs, recruitment, interviewing, and screening of candidates, and makes recommendations regarding continued employment or dismissal of employees under their jurisdiction. This includes the arrangement of substitute personnel in the building.Supervises the ordinary maintenance of the building property, its equipment, and furniture.Coordinates with the Transportation Director on the management of students when on school vehicles. Plans and implements recognition events such as, but not limited to, academic awards nights, recognition assemblies, class events, and moving-up ceremonies.Assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent or their designee. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:12-month position (not applicable to “interim” position)Competitive salary commensurate with experienceBenefit schedule per collective bargaining agreement. EVALUATION:Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with laws and regulations of New York State.
