The Harborfields Central School District is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Elementary Teacher to join the instructional team at Thomas J. Lahey Elementary School , a Grades 3 through 5 school, effective 2026-2027 school year . This is an anticipated vacancy and is a probationary, tenure-track position . The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and reflective educator with a strong commitment to upper elementary education, developmentally appropriate instructional practices, and the academic, social, and emotional development of students. Thomas J. Lahey Elementary School values collaboration, inclusive practices, and continuous professional growth. Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Plan and deliver instruction aligned to the New York State Learning Standards for students in Grades 3 through 5 Establish and maintain a positive, inclusive, and structured classroom environment that promotes engagement and independence Implement research-based instructional practices in literacy, numeracy, and content-area instruction Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners, including students with disabilities and English Language Learners Use formative and summative assessment data to inform instructional planning and targeted supports Implement classroom-level interventions and supports aligned to the school’s Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) framework Collaborate with grade-level teams, specialists, AIS, and Pupil Personnel Services staff Communicate effectively and professionally with families regarding student progress and well-being Support positive student behavior using developmentally appropriate classroom management strategies Participate in professional learning communities, faculty meetings, and ongoing professional development Contribute to a positive school climate and support school-wide initiatives Fulfill all duties in accordance with district policies, contractual obligations, and New York State regulations Qualifications Valid New York State Education Department certification in Childhood Education (Grades 1–6) required Valid New York State Education Department certification in Special Education preferred Strong understanding of upper elementary instructional practices and child development Knowledge of the science of reading, writing instruction, and grade-level numeracy Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, students, and families Strong organizational, technical, and communication skills Application Instructions Qualified candidates must apply through OLAS only and submit a resume, cover letter addressed to Milton Josephs, Executive Director of Human Resources , and proof of New York State certification.
