QUALIFICATIONS:The Occupational Therapist shall:1. Hold New York State Occupational Therapist Certification.2. Have ability to relate to and work with children with disabilities.3. Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative.4. Exhibit a personality that demonstrates interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff,administration, parents, and the community.5. Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using propergrammar and vocabulary.6. Provide proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status by completing Federal Form I-9 incompliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.7. Provide evidence that a criminal record history check has been conducted and fingerprint clearance hasbeen given by the Department of Education.8. Provide evidence that health is adequate to fulfill the job functions and responsibilities with reasonableaccommodation applicable to New York State laws.9. Pass the State required Tuberculin Test prior to start date.10. Meet such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Director may find appropriate and acceptable.The Occupational Therapist shall:1. Establish and maintain as positive, respectful and supportive relationship with all students and staff.2. Maintain an effective data-management system.3. Plan and implement habilitative/rehabilitative programs of therapy following established occupationaltherapy protocols in accordance with the student’s IEP that will develop, improve, sustain or restoreskills in academic, daily living, school and leisure activities.4. Conduct individual and group therapy in the areas of fine and gross motor development, visual andsensory perception, reasoning, cognitive and functional self-care.5. Recommend and train students and staff in the use of assistive technology or orthotic devices.6. Interpret evaluations conducted by CSE other provider.7. Maintain and interpret student records including but not limited to IEP’s.8. Assist principal in resolving student needs, issues, and problems.9. Conduct observations in the school setting and make adjustments to the instructional program asnecessary.10. Utilize district technology and work to maintain proficiency.11. Maintain and ensure an accurate student therapy record system.12. Participate in appropriate in-service and workshop programs and attend required meetings.13. Serve as a role model for students and staff in demonstrating positive attitudes, appropriate attire andgrooming, and effective work ethic.14. Display ethical behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agenciesassociated with the school.15. De-personalize students’ inappropriate behaviors especially when directed toward you.16. Protect confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising responsibilities and dutiesand disclose such information within legal confines with prior approval of administration.17. Adhere to all applicable Federal and New York State Board of Education rules and regulations and TheHallen School policies and procedures.18. Perform any duties and responsibilities that are within the scope of employment, as assigned by theirsupervisor and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation.
