The One to One shall: Hold a high school diploma or GED.Have ability to relate to and work with children with disabilities.Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative.Exhibit a personality that demonstrates interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, and the community.Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.Provide proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status by completing Federal Form I-9 in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.Provide evidence that a criminal record history check has been conducted and fingerprint clearance has been given by the Department of Education.Provide evidence that health is adequate to fulfill the job functions and responsibilities with reasonable accommodation applicable to New York State laws.Pass the State required Tuberculin Test prior to start date.Meet such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Director may find appropriate and acceptable.Under the direct supervision of the teacher, the One to One shall: Establish and maintain a positive, respectful and supportive relationship with assigned student, all students, and staff.Follow teacher instructions to assist the assigned student with all instructional and non-instructional tasks as assigned by the teacher.Assist student in responding to directions/instruction.Follow Behavior Improvement Plan (BIP) including de-escalation techniques.Document or chart observable behaviors of the assigned student.Assist the teacher with the preparation of all materials, books, and supplies needed to reinforce skills and concepts taught by the teacher.Escort the assigned student to and from each class and/or scheduled activity.Assist the teacher in related clerical work.Operate and care for educational equipment for assigned student.Use computers and/or electronic equipment to fulfill job functions.Participate in appropriate in-service and workshop programs and attend required meetings.Serve as a role model for students and staff in demonstrating positive attitudes, appropriate attire and grooming, and effective work ethic.Display ethical behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school.De-personalize students’ inappropriate behaviors especially when directed toward you.Protect confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising responsibilities and duties and disclose such information within legal confines with prior approval of administration.Adhere to all applicable Federal and New York State Board of Education rules and regulations and The Hallen School policies and procedures.Perform any duties and responsibilities that are within the scope of employment, as assigned by supervisor and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation.
