Position The Greenburgh Central School District (GCSD) is seeking a passionate, student-centered Reading Teacher committed to literacy development, educational equity, and academic excellence for all learners. As a diverse, International Baccalaureate (IB) World School District serving students in grades Pre-K–12, GCSD is dedicated to developing globally minded, reflective, and compassionate learners who thrive in a rapidly changing world. The Reading Teacher will play a critical role in providing targeted literacy intervention and specialized instruction to support students’ academic growth. This position requires a collaborative educator who values culturally responsive teaching, inquiry-based learning, and data-informed instructional practices. The successful candidate will support students in becoming confident readers, writers, thinkers, and communicators while fostering an inclusive and affirming learning environment. Duties The responsibilities below outline the primary duties of the position. This list is not intended to be all-inclusive, and additional related duties may be assigned as needed: Design and deliver specialized literacy instruction and targeted interventions grounded in evidence-based practices, including the Science of Reading and the five essential components of literacy: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Develop and facilitate inquiry-driven, culturally responsive learning experiences that align with the IB Learner Profile and support the development of Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills, particularly in communication, research, and critical thinking across the Pre-K–12 continuum. Promote conceptual understanding in literacy by integrating reading, writing, and oral language across disciplines, supporting the transdisciplinary framework of the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and the interdisciplinary approaches of the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP). Utilize a comprehensive range of literacy assessments (e.g., running records, phonics inventories, writing samples, and progress-monitoring tools) to analyze student data, identify learning needs, monitor progress, and inform responsive instructional planning. Collaborate effectively with classroom teachers, special education staff, ENL teachers, interventionists, and IB coordinators to ensure a coherent, aligned approach to literacy development and student achievement. Advance the district’s commitment to equity and the IB mission by actively addressing opportunity gaps and fostering inclusive, affirming, and high-expectation learning environments for all students. Provide differentiated, small-group, and individualized instruction that supports the diverse needs of learners, including multilingual learners and students with disabilities. Build and sustain strong partnerships with families and caregivers through consistent, purposeful communication that supports literacy development at home and school. Engage in ongoing professional learning, professional learning communities, and curriculum development initiatives to deepen expertise in literacy instruction and the International Baccalaureate framework, aligned with district goals. Desired Qualifications & Skills Successful candidates will demonstrate: Comprehensive expertise in literacy development, evidence-based reading intervention strategies (e.g., Science of Reading), and diagnostic assessment practices. Proven ability to leverage diverse formative and summative assessment data for continuous progress monitoring and responsive instructional planning. Deep knowledge of the NYS Next Generation Learning Standards and their alignment with the GCSD/IB curriculum framework and the NYS Portrait of a Graduate. Experience with Fountas & Pinnell assessments and literacy frameworks is preferred. Skill in developing highly differentiated and accessible instruction to meet the needs of all diverse learners, including Multilingual Learners (MLs) and students with disabilities. Demonstrated commitment to culturally responsive and anti-racist instructional practices that promote equity and foster an inclusive learning environment, aligning with the IB mission. Ability to cultivate engaging, inquiry-based learning experiences that foster higher-order thinking and align with the development of the IB Learner Profile attributes. Proficiency in collaborative models (including co-teaching) to ensure coherence in literacy instruction and support across the Pre-K-12 IB continuum. Strong relationship-building skills and effective classroom management that support a positive, safe, and nurturing learning climate. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, essential for effective collaboration with colleagues, students, and families. Commitment to reflective practice and continuous professional growth, particularly within the IB framework and district strategic goals. Ability to seamlessly integrate technology to enhance 21st-century learning skills and Approaches to Learning (ATL) in literacy instruction. Qualifications Valid NYS certification in one of the following areas: Literacy (5-12) Literacy (All Grades) Reading (Prek-12) Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
