Position The Greenburgh Central School District is seeking a dynamic, student-centered English Teacher (Grades 7–12) who is committed to fostering academic excellence, critical thinking, literacy development, and a passion for learning in a diverse educational environment. As an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School District, Greenburgh is dedicated to developing knowledgeable, caring, and globally minded students. The successful candidate will create engaging learning experiences that support students' growth in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and critical analysis while promoting equity, inclusion, and social-emotional development. Duties The responsibilities below outline the primary duties of the position. This list is not intended to be all-inclusive, and additional related duties may be assigned as needed: Plan, develop, and deliver standards-based English Language Arts instruction aligned with New York State Learning Standards and district curriculum goals. Create engaging and rigorous lessons that develop students' reading comprehension, writing proficiency, communication skills, literary analysis, and critical thinking abilities. Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, technologies, and differentiated learning approaches to meet the needs of diverse learners. Foster a classroom environment that promotes student engagement, collaboration, inquiry, and academic achievement. Provide individualized and small-group instruction to support student learning and achievement. Develop, administer, and assess classroom assignments, projects, presentations, quizzes, and examinations, providing timely and constructive feedback. Monitor and evaluate student progress through formal and informal assessments and maintain accurate records of student performance. Incorporate social-emotional learning practices and culturally responsive teaching strategies into daily instruction. Support students in developing strong organizational, communication, and self-advocacy skills. Establish and maintain positive relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community stakeholders. Collaborate with colleagues, support staff, and administrators to enhance instructional practices and student outcomes. Participate in curriculum development, professional learning communities, department meetings, and district professional development activities. Integrate educational technology and digital resources to enhance teaching and learning. Maintain a safe, inclusive, respectful, and productive classroom environment conducive to learning. Implement classroom management practices that support positive student behavior and engagement. Observe, document, and communicate student academic progress and behavioral concerns as appropriate. Utilize conflict resolution, restorative practices, and approved intervention strategies to support student success. Support district initiatives, including International Baccalaureate (IB) programming and culturally responsive educational practices. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Building Principal or District Administration. Qualifications Valid NYS certification in English Language Arts 7-12 Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills. Experience teaching in diverse educational settings. Knowledge of International Baccalaureate (IB) philosophy and instructional practices. Experience integrating educational technology into classroom instruction. Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practices.
