Freeport Public School District is seeking dedicated Social Worker to join our team of extraordinary staff members for the 2026-2027 school year. Preferred Qualifications for School Social Worker Experience in Social-Emotional Programming and Planning Demonstrated ability to assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of social-emotional learning (SEL) programs for students. Experience in integrating SEL into the school curriculum to promote positive behavior and emotional well-being. Expertise in Organizing Community Events and Accessing Resources Proven ability to plan and organize community-based events that engage families and provide access to community resources. Strong connections with local organizations and agencies to offer support and resources for students, staff, and parents. Parent Engagement and Support Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage parents in school activities and provide them with relevant resources for supporting their children’s social and emotional development. Experience in hosting parent workshops or support groups focused on wellness, mental health, and educational success. Wellness Strategies for Students and Staff Knowledge and experience in implementing wellness strategies for both students and staff, including stress management, mindfulness practices, and mental health resources. Ability to create a supportive and healthy school environment that promotes overall well-being. Leadership in Wellness Initiatives Comfortable leading wellness initiatives and programs for staff and students, ensuring a positive and inclusive environment. Experience in supervising or guiding wellness staff, such as counselors or other mental health professionals, to enhance the well-being of the school community. Innovative Approaches to Social Work Strong problem-solving skills and creativity in addressing student and staff needs through innovative programming and interventions. Ability to adapt and apply new methodologies and practices to improve student outcomes. Evidence-Based Social Work Practices In-depth knowledge of and experience with evidence-based practices in social work, including interventions for trauma, crisis management, and behavior modification. Ability to assess, track, and report on student progress using data-driven approaches. Cultural Competency Demonstrated cultural competency and sensitivity in working with diverse student populations and their families. Ability to tailor interventions and supports to meet the unique needs of individual students, considering their cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Team Collaboration and Interdisciplinary Work Ability to work collaboratively with other school staff, including teachers, administrators, and counselors, to provide comprehensive support for students. Strong interpersonal skills to foster a positive working environment with all stakeholders. Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) A Master’s Degree in Social Work from an accredited program, along with a valid license or certification as required by state regulations (e.g., LMSW, LCSW). Experience working in a school setting or with children and adolescents is highly preferred.
