Position Overview The East Ramapo Central School District is seeking a highly skilled, collaborative, and student-centered Assistant Principal – Special Education to provide instructional, operational, and program leadership for students with disabilities. The Assistant Principal will work closely with the building principal, Special Education leadership, teachers, related service providers, and families to ensure students receive high-quality instruction and services aligned with their IEPs and applicable federal and state requirements. Key Responsibilities Provide day-to-day leadership of special education programs, ensuring IEP recommendations, services, and supports are implemented with fidelity. Support teachers in delivering standards-aligned, differentiated instruction; conduct observations and provide actionable feedback. Monitor building-level compliance with IDEA and NYS special education requirements, including IEP timelines, annual reviews, and reevaluations. Participate in CSE meetings and collaborate with CSE chairpersons and PPS staff on student programming and placement. Use student data (achievement, IEP, behavioral, attendance) to identify needs, monitor progress, and drive instructional decisions. Collaborate with related service providers, psychologists, social workers, and families to address student needs and resolve concerns. Supervise, coach, and evaluate assigned special education staff in accordance with district expectations and applicable CBAs. Serve as a member of the building leadership team, supporting school improvement priorities and district initiatives. Support the development and implementation of inclusive practices and least restrictive environment (LRE) programming. Review documentation and records to identify potential compliance concerns and ensure timely corrective action. Provide coaching, mentoring, and professional learning to special education teachers and support staff. Develop positive, professional relationships with families; communicate proactively regarding student programming, services, and progress. Participate in district meetings, professional development, and monitoring activities as assigned. Qualifications NYS School Building Leader (SBL) or School District Leader (SDL) certification, or eligibility. Valid NYS certification in Special Education or another appropriate area as required by the district. Master's degree from an accredited institution. Successful experience working with students with disabilities; demonstrated experience with IEP development, CSE processes, and special education regulations. Administrative or teacher leadership experience preferred. Strong data-informed decision-making, communication, and problem-solving skills.
