Job Description The district is seeking a dedicated and highly qualified Special Education Teacher – English Language Arts (ELA) to provide engaging, standards-based literacy instruction while supporting the academic, social, and emotional needs of students with disabilities. The ideal candidate will be committed to fostering literacy, critical thinking, and communication skills through differentiated instruction aligned with New York State learning standards and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Responsibilities include: Develop and implement daily ELA lessons aligned with New York State Next Generation ELA Standards and students' IEP goals Provide specialized instruction in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and literacy development Differentiate instruction, accommodations, and assessments to meet the diverse needs of learners Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusive practices and co-teaching models as appropriate Monitor student progress toward academic and IEP goals using multiple sources of data Maintain accurate records, progress reports, and special education documentation Participate in Committee on Special Education (CSE) meetings and contribute to the development and implementation of IEPs Create a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment that promotes student success Communicate regularly with families regarding student achievement, growth, and support strategies Collaborate with related service providers, instructional coaches, counselors, and administrators Participate in professional development and school community initiatives Required Qualifications: New York State Certification in Special Education (Students with Disabilities Grades 7–12 or appropriate certification for assignment) New York State Certification in English Language Arts (ELA) 7–12 , or eligibility to teach ELA in a special education setting Strong knowledge of literacy instruction, reading and writing interventions, and evidence-based practices for students with disabilities Experience developing and implementing IEPs and progress-monitoring systems Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment Strong organizational, communication, and classroom management skills Preferred Qualifications: Experience teaching ELA to students with disabilities at the middle or high school level Experience with co-teaching, inclusion, resource room, or self-contained instructional settings Familiarity with blended learning, assistive technology, and integrating technology into instruction Knowledge of culturally responsive teaching practices and literacy development Bilingual Spanish/English a plus Salary: As per East Ramapo Teachers Association (ERTA) contract, commensurate with experience and credentials.
