Job Title: Assistant Director of Pupil Personnel ServicesJob Overview:East Ramapo Central School District is seeking an Assistant Director of Special Education Services. The successful candidate will support the Director of Special Education and the Assistant Superintendent of Pupil Personnel Services in ensuring that special education programs across both public and nonpublic schools comply with all federal and state regulations. This role includes overseeing and managing special education and student support programs, evaluating school-based teaching and learning staff, coordinating professional development for special education teachers and related service providers, and collaborating with various stakeholders to enhance student outcomes. Bilingual candidates are preferred to meet the diverse needs of our student population.Key Responsibilities:Compliance and Alignment:Ensure that special education programs in public and nonpublic schools comply with federal and state regulations.Support alignment with the district’s strategic academic plan and comprehensive improvement plan.Conduct audits and reviews of special education programs and services to ensure adherence to policies and regulations.Address any issues of non-compliance and implement corrective actions as necessary.Support Services Management:Assist in overseeing the implementation and delivery of special education services and related support services for students in both public and nonpublic schoolsCollaborate with school administrators, teachers, and staff to ensure that student needs are being met effectively and efficiently.Evaluation and Professional Development:Evaluate school-based teaching and learning staff.Develop and coordinate professional development programs for special education teachers and related service providers, including speech therapists, occupational therapists, and school psychologists.Organize workshops, training sessions, and ongoing professional learning opportunities to enhance staff skills and knowledge.Evaluate the effectiveness of professional development initiatives and make adjustments as needed.IEP Coordination and Oversight:Support the development, implementation, and monitoring of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities in public and nonpublic settings.Ensure that IEP meetings are conducted in a timely manner and that all required participants are involved.Provide guidance and support to case managers and special education teachers in developing and updating IEPs.Student and Family Support:Serve as a resource for students and families, addressing concerns and providing information about available services and supports.Facilitate communication between school staff, families, and external agencies to coordinate services and supports.Advocate for the needs and rights of students with disabilities within the school community all schools.Data Collection and Analysis:Collect and analyze data related to student performance, program effectiveness, and service delivery.Use data to inform decision-making, program improvements, and resource allocation.Prepare reports and presentations for district leadership, school boards, and other stakeholders.Collaboration and Coordination:Work closely with the Director of Pupil Personnel Services and the Assistant Superintendent of Pupil Personnel Services on various tasks and projects.Participate in district-wide planning and policy development related to special education and student support services.Collaborate with other departments and community organizations to support student needs and enhance service delivery.Multicultural Understanding and Sensitivity:Demonstrate an understanding of and sensitivity to the diverse cultural backgrounds of students and their families.Apply culturally responsive practices in service delivery, communication, and professional development.Promote an inclusive school environment that respects and values diversity, fostering a sense of belonging for all students.Qualifications:Master’s or Doctoral degree in Education, Special Education, School Psychology, or a related field.Valid NYS District certificate required (SDL).Previous administrative experience preferred, along with extensive knowledge of state and federal special education regulations, and instructional best practices to support varying levels of students.Experience in preparation and presentation of professional development is also preferred.Strong knowledge of educational, psychological, and related service testing, assessment tools, and therapeutic techniques.Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of students, families, and professionals.Bilingual (Spanish) preferred to meet the diverse needs of our student population.Work Environment:The Assistant Director of Pupil Personnel Services will work in both public and nonpublic schools, interacting with students, staff, parents, and community partners regularly. This role requires flexibility, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Travel between schools within the district may be required.Salary:Salary is regionally competitive.
