We are seeking a passionate, dedicated, and highly qualified Literacy Teacher to join our team and help our students develop a lifelong love for reading and writing. Position Summary The Literacy Teacher will work directly with elementary students to accelerate reading and writing achievement. This role involves delivering data-driven, differentiated instruction to small groups and individual students, collaborating with classroom teachers, and implementing evidence-based literacy interventions. Key Responsibilities Direct Instruction: Provide targeted, high-quality literacy intervention and enrichment to individuals and small groups of students. Data-Driven Planning: Assess student progress using formative and summative assessments, analyzing data to tailor instruction to diverse learning needs. Collaboration: Partner with classroom teachers, special education staff, and administration to align intervention strategies with core classroom instruction. Curriculum Implementation: Utilize evidence-based reading practices and structured literacy approaches to support struggling readers. Family Engagement: Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and provide strategies for home support. Qualifications & Requirements Mandatory Requirement: Candidates must possess both an advanced degree in literacy and the appropriate New York State professional certification to be considered for this role. Education: Master’s Degree in Literacy, Reading, or a closely related field from an accredited institution. Certification: Valid New York State (NYS) Certification as a Literacy Specialist / Birth-Grade 6 (or equivalent NYS Reading certification). Experience: Proven track record of successfully teaching reading and writing at the elementary level, preferably within a diverse school setting. Skills: Deep knowledge of the Science of Reading, structured literacy, diagnostic reading assessments, and multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS/RTI).
