The District Located in the heart of Westchester County, about twenty miles north of New York City, the Elmsford Union Free School District serves the Village of Elmsford and portions of the Town of Greenburgh. Our close-knit community of approximately 9,300 residents includes about 1,111 students who attend our three schools and UPK program. Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and highly skilled Special Education Teacher to lead an 8:1:2 classroom serving students in grades K–2 on the autism spectrum. This classroom supports students with diverse communication and learning needs, including the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices. The ideal candidate is experienced in structured, evidence-based instructional practices and is comfortable managing a classroom team while creating a supportive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment. Key Responsibilities: Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) aligned with student goals and needs Deliver differentiated instruction across academic, social, behavioral, and communication domains Integrate AAC devices and communication strategies into daily instruction Utilize evidence-based practices (e.g., ABA strategies, structured teaching, visual supports) Monitor student progress and maintain accurate data collection Supervise and collaborate with Teaching Assistants (TAs) and related service providers Foster a positive classroom culture that supports student independence and social-emotional growth Communicate regularly with families and participate in team meetings Qualifications: Valid Special Education Teaching Certification (required) Experience working with students on the autism spectrum (preferred) Knowledge of AAC systems and assistive technology (preferred) Strong leadership, organization, and collaboration skills Ability to manage and support a team of teacher aides Bilingual candidates preferred, but not required
