The assistant principal provides assistance to the school principal in the evaluation and modification of the instructional programs offered by the school. The Assistant Principal supports the management of school, human and financial resources, buildings, grounds and equipment. The candidate is responsible for establishing effective relationships with students, parents, staff, community groups and Central Office support staff. The candidate will be responsible for supporting the principal in providing a safe and secure learning environment for students and staff. The Assistant Principal also assumes responsibility for the school building during the absence of the Principal.PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:Assist the principal in defining the school’s mission and communicating goals and expectations of the total school program.Adhere to, and comply with, all Board of Education policies, regulations, and operating procedures.Provide instructional leadership, in concert with the principal, for the implementation of the curriculum of the Elmsford Union Free School District.Assist the principal in supervising the instructional program of the school as well as providing instructional leadership.Confers with teachers, students and parents on matters related to curriculum and instruction.Plan for the arrangement and organization of all school examination schedules and the supervision of administration of such examsAssists the principal in monitoring and assessing student achievement and participation in outcomes with appropriate data collection and analysis.Assist the principal in supervising and evaluating the effectiveness of all school-based personnel.Support the principal in the process of continuous school improvement.Use multiple sources of data to monitor and assess student achievement, as requested by the principal.Assist in the implementation of school wide supervision plans that establish and maintain a safe and orderly environment.Provide an atmosphere of efficiency, cooperation, stimulation, recognition and service in which the school program can operate most efficiently.Administer and coordinate school discipline and maintain necessary discipline records.Work with students on behavior modification with the involvement of parents when warrantedServe as liaison in coordinating supportive services and other social agencies to meet student and family needs.Assume responsibilities for maintaining attendance proceduresPlan and engage in professional activities, which contribute to leadership development.Communicate effectively with students, staff, administrative and supervisory personnel, parents, and community.Assist the principal with responsibility for the business management function of local school finances.Assist the principal in supervision and oversight of school operations unique to assignment.Exercise initiative, tact, and good judgment in dealing with others.Work cooperatively and interact positively with students, staff and community exercising courtesy, discretion, and self-controlSupport the development, implementation and monitoring of each student’s IEP, as applicable, while assisting the principal with on-going compliance of special education regulations (state and federal), including the implementation of due process procedures.Assist in identification and monitoring of students in need of academic intervention within the framework of Response to InterventionProvide for arrangements for the supervision of teachers and students in the fulfillment of assigned duties and responsibilities in the regular dayArrange for the supervision of teachers and students in fulfillment of their assigned duties and responsibilities in the regular day program, at evening activities, and other times when school events are heldAssist in providing an atmosphere of efficiency, cooperation, stimulation, recognition and service in which the school program can operate most effectivelyAssist in keeping parents and the community in general acquainted with the school’s program, its policies and activities, including new developments and changesREPORTS TO: PrincipalCOMPENSATION: Salary Range of: $105,000 - $125,000 - commensurate with experience.
