The Dobbs Ferry School District is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable full-time Secondary Reading Teacher to support literacy development in grades 6–12. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in the Science of Reading and will play a key role in improving student reading outcomes through direct instruction, targeted intervention, and coaching support for staff. This position requires a collaborative educator who is passionate about adolescent literacy and committed to evidence-based instructional practices. This is a full-time, probationary/tenure track position effective August 27, 2025. Terms of employment are in accordance with the Dobbs Ferry United Teachers (DFUT) collective bargaining unit.Key ResponsibilitiesTeaching:Plan and deliver effective, engaging reading instruction aligned with evidence-based practices for secondary students.Incorporate structured literacy elements, including explicit instruction in phonics, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, and writing.Utilize data to differentiate instruction and support the literacy development of diverse learners, including students with IEP’s and English Language Learners.Incorporate strategies to improve vocabulary, comprehension, fluency, writing, and critical thinking across content areas.Intervention:Conduct and analyze literacy assessments to identify students’ strengths and needs.Provide small-group and individualized reading interventions using programs such as Wilson Reading System, REWARDS, and other structured literacy-based approaches.Monitor student progress regularly and adjust instruction based on data.Coaching and Collaboration:Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, and intervention teams to support the integration of effective reading strategies into content-area instruction to support student success.Provide modeling, coaching, and professional development in evidence-based reading instruction and intervention strategies.Support school-wide literacy goals and contribute to MTSS/RTI planning and implementation.Support school-wide literacy initiatives and data-driven instructional planning.Contribute to the development and implementation of school-wide literacy initiatives and multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS). QualificationsNYSED Certification Literacy Grades 5-12 or related certification with demonstrated literacy expertise.Experience teaching reading or providing intervention at the middle or high school level.Strong knowledge and understanding of adolescent literacy; evidenced-based instructional practices including explicit instruction, scaffolding, formative assessment, and gradual release of responsibility; and MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports).Proficient in administering and interpreting data from STAR Assessments or similar universal screening tools.Excellent communication and collaboration skills.Preferred Qualifications:Experience in instructional coaching or facilitating professional learning.Training in specific evidence-based literacy programs (e.g., LETRS, Wilson, Orton-Gillingham).Familiarity with data management tools and progress monitoring systems.Background in instructional coaching or teacher support roles.Experience with MTSS, RTI, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and data- informed instructional planning.Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience and in accordance with the DFUT salary schedule.
