Position Title: Director of Special Education ServicesLocation: Coxsackie-Athens Central School District24 Sunset Blvd, Coxsackie, NY 12051Reports To: Superintendent of SchoolsEmployment Status: Full-Time, 12-Month PositionSalary & Benefits: Commensurate with experience and qualifications and the CBA.Position Summary:The Coxsackie-Athens Central School District is seeking a highly qualified and experienced professional to serve as the Director of Special Education Services. The Director will be responsible for overseeing the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of all special education programs and services within the district. This individual will ensure that students with disabilities receive the support and services necessary to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally, in accordance with federal and state regulations.Key Responsibilities:Program Leadership and Administration:Provide strategic leadership and direction for the district’s special education programs, ensuring alignment with the district’s mission, vision, and goals.Supervise and evaluate special education staff, including special education teachers, paraprofessionals, related service providers, and administrative support personnel.Oversee the development and management of the special education budget, ensuring the efficient allocation of resources.Provide leadership in the use of student data to inform classroom instruction.Compliance and Oversight:Ensure compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and all other relevant federal, state, and local regulations.Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of special education programs and services, making adjustments as necessary to meet the needs of students.Prepare and submit required reports to the New York State Education Department and other regulatory bodies.Student Support and Services:Oversee the development, implementation, and monitoring of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities.Coordinate the delivery of related services, including speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and psychological services.Lead the district’s efforts in the Response to Intervention (RTI) and Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) processes.Collaboration and Communication:Serve as a liaison between the district, parents, and community agencies to ensure that students with disabilities receive comprehensive and coordinated services.Work collaboratively with building principals, general education teachers, and other district staff to support the inclusion of students with disabilities in the general education environment.Provide training and professional development for staff on special education laws, best practices, and instructional strategies.Policy Development and Implementation:Develop and implement district policies and procedures related to special education services, ensuring they are up-to-date and compliant with legal requirements.Stay current on trends, research, and best practices in special education to guide program development and improvement.Advocacy and Support:Advocate for the needs of students with disabilities at the district, state, and federal levels.Provide support and guidance to parents and families, helping them navigate the special education process and access available resources.Qualifications:Education:Master’s degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field required.Certificate of Advanced Study (CAS) or equivalent in School District Administration and Supervision preferred.Valid New York State certification as a School District Administrator (SDA) or School District Leader (SDL) required.Experience:Minimum of five years of experience within special education services.Demonstrated knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.Experience in supervising staff, managing budgets, and ensuring program compliance is preferred, not required.Skills:Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, families, and community agencies.Proficiency in data analysis and the use of technology to education programs.Application Process: Interested candidates should submit the following:1.
