POSITION: Special Education Teacher Probationary Appt QUALIFICATIONS:New York State certified (or certifiable) in special educationKnowledge of special needs of students in assigned area Knowledge of Committee on Special Education (CSE) process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting process and implementation General knowledge of curriculum and instruction MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:Responsible for planning, developing, and implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with special needs, including those focusing on life skills development. Provide instruction in academic subjects, social skills, and daily living skills. Design and implement curriculum and instruction tailored to help students with disabilities develop essential life skills, such as communication, problem-solving, self-care, and vocational skills. Work collaboratively with other educators, therapists, and parents to support student growth and independence. Provide special education students with learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Develop or modify curricula and prepare lessons and other instructional materials to student ability levels. Work in self-contained, team, departmental, or itinerant capacity as assigned. Support students with behavioral challenges in developing positive behaviors and social skills. GOALS OF PROGRAM:Academic Achievement: The primary goal is to help students achieve academic success at their own pace. This includes mastering foundational skills in reading, writing, math, and other core subjects.Social and Emotional Development: The class also focuses on developing social skills, self-esteem, and emotional regulation.
