The Full-Time Probationary Elementary Science Specialist Teacher provides engaging, hands-on, inquiry-based science instruction for students in grades K-6. This position focuses on designing and implementing laboratory experiences and phenomena-based lessons that promote curiosity, critical thinking, and scientific understanding. The Science Specialist supports the implementation of high-quality science instruction aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)/NYSSLS. Required Certification : New York State Certification in Elementary Education (Grades K–6) Additional certification and/or degree in a science field strongly preferred Qualifications : Experience in teaching elementary science Strong understanding of NGSS/NYSSLS and inquiry-based instructional practices Ability to design and facilitate hands-on, laboratory-based learning experiences Knowledge of differentiation to support diverse learners, including ENL and special education students Strong classroom management, organization, and communication skills Key Responsibilities : Plan and deliver standards-aligned science instruction for grades K-6 Design and implement hands-on, inquiry-based lessons and lab experiences Use phenomena-based instruction to engage students in questioning, investigation, and problem-solving Integrate science and engineering practices, crosscutting concepts, and core ideas into instruction Assess student learning using a variety of formative and summative measures Collaborate with classroom teachers to support and extend science learning Maintain and manage science materials, resources, and lab spaces Support district science curriculum and initiatives Preferred Qualifications: Background in STEM/STEAM or project-based learning a plus Experience with elementary science kits and lab safety practices
