The Full-Time Probationary Elementary Literacy Instructional Coach serves as a collaborative, non-evaluative partner to teachers, supporting the implementation of high-quality literacy instruction across grades K-6. Grounded in the Science of Reading and evidence-based practices, the coach works to build teacher capacity through job-embedded professional learning, modeling, and data-informed instructional support. This role is essential in advancing district literacy initiatives and ensuring all students develop strong foundational and advanced literacy skills. Required Certification : New York State Certification in Elementary Education (Grades K–6) Literacy Certification (Birth-Grade 6 or All Grades) Qualifications : Experience in an instructional coaching or teacher leadership role Strong knowledge of the Science of Reading (phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension) Expertise in literacy instruction, including reading and writing across grade levels Experience analyzing student data to inform instruction and intervention Ability to differentiate instruction to support a range of learners, including ENL and special education students Strong collaboration and communication skills Key Responsibilities : Partner with teachers to plan, implement, and reflect on effective literacy instruction Model research-based practices aligned to the Science of Reading, Writing, and Learning Support the integration of reading, writing, speaking, and knowledge building, across the instructional day Provide job-embedded professional learning through coaching cycles, co-teaching, and demonstration lessons Support teachers in using assessment data to guide instruction and targeted interventions Assist with the implementation of district literacy programs and initiatives Mentor and support new teachers in literacy best practices Collaborate with building and district leadership to ensure instructional coherence and alignment Instructional Coaching Approach: Non-evaluative, collaborative support Reflective dialogue and goal setting Ongoing coaching cycles focused on continuous improvement and student outcomes
