2025-2026 Anticipated VacancyThe Cold Spring Harbor Central School District is seeking an experienced, dynamic, and visionary leader to serve as the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources. This individual will oversee all aspects of the district’s human resources function and serve as a key member of the Superintendent’s Cabinet. This position is responsible for strategic planning, personnel administration, policy development, labor relations, and collaboration with district and community stakeholders. The successful candidate will play a vital role in recruiting, developing, and retaining a talented and diverse workforce while promoting a supportive, legally compliant, and positive work environment.QualificationsValid New York State Administrative Certification (SDL, SDA, or SAS)Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a public-school building principal and/or district administrator, along with at least five (5) years of teaching experience.A strong background in educational administration, ideally with experience in human resources within a school district or educational setting.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to foster positive relationships with staff, students, and the community.In-depth knowledge of human resources practices, labor laws and regulations, including recruitment, hiring, performance, and employee relations.Ability to develop and implement strategic initiatives that enhance staff recruitment, retention, and professional development.Proficient in data analysis to assess HR metrics and make informed decisions that support the district's goals.Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to address complex HR challenges and implement effective solutions.Experience working collaboratively with various stakeholders, including teachers, administrators, and the school board, to align HR practices with the district’s mission.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesProvide leadership and supervision to Human Resources Department staff.Develop, revise, and implement personnel policies, procedures, and job descriptions.Ensure legal and contractual compliance, including matters of certification, tenure, and employment law. Coordinate the tenure recommendation process for probationary staff.Address employee concerns and grievances, facilitating conflict resolution, and promoting a positive work environment.Lead implementation and management of digital HR systems (e.g., Frontline).Stay current with HR best practices and evolving legal/regulatory frameworks.Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations (FMLA, EEOC, certification, etc.)Oversees Title IX compliance with applicable federal and state laws.Oversees recruitment, hiring, onboarding, evaluation, and separation of all district personnel.Collaborate with the Superintendent on staffing decisions and prepare Board of Education personnel recommendations.Participate in collective bargaining; interpret and implement provisions of negotiated agreements; manage grievance processes.Supervise substitute teacher systems and ensure adequate staffing.Coordinate recruitment and onboarding of substitute teachers.Engage with the broader educational community to support recruitment and retention.Analyze teacher observation data to identify professional development priorities.Develop and refine staff offboarding procedures, ensuring return of district property and compliance.Organize and oversee all mandatory annual training (e.g., DASA, Right to Know, GCN, Sexual Harassment).Serve as liaison for state and federal instructional program and teacher evaluation reporting.Ensure administrator training and certification as lead evaluators (Charlotte Danielson Framework); oversee APPR program. Coordinate with Assistant Superintendent of C and I.Review and approve all timesheet instructional activities.Approve in-service and graduate coursework for salary advancement.Continuously evaluate and refine hiring practices and related documentation.Maintain active membership in relevant HR professional organizations.Promote professional development initiatives and collaborate on the district’s PD plan.Communicate and collaborate with administrators, staff, and union leadership.Collaborate with the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction to coordinate new teacher orientation and mentoring.Supports the teacher mentoring program.Celebrate and recognize staff achievements to support positive morale and a healthy work culture.Prepare and manage the Human Resources budget, authorizing expenditures and budget transfers as needed.Prepare the personnel section for Board of Education agendas.Perform additional duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.Attend Cabinet, Leadership, Curriculum & Instruction, and Board of Education meetingsIdeal Candidate ProfileVisionary Leader: Strategic thinker who aligns HR practices with district goals.Collaborative Communicator: Builds strong relationships across departments and the community.Ethical Decision-Maker: Models integrity, fairness, and a student-centered approach.Analytical & Organized: Uses data effectively to guide HR decision-making.Results-Oriented: Proven success in advancing HR goals and organizational effectiveness.Cover letter may be addressed to Dr. Candice Brodie, Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources*No telephone calls, please
