MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Position Description:The Assistant Principal of PALS will serve as an administrator for a special education program consisting of students ages 5-21 with developmental disabilities. Programming focuses on functional academics, life skills and work experience.The Assistant Principal in the PALS Program will have the opportunity for frequent student interaction, creative individualization to support student needs, and ongoing collaboration with a team dedicated to student success.The team works to consistently support student educational and social-emotional learning needs by working closely with classroom teachers, related service providers, families and support staff. Key responsibilities include: Managing support staff and mentoring teachers to follow student IEPs, implement Behavior Intervention Plans, and collect data for monitoring growth towards goals.Supporting students, through a trauma-informed lens, in identifying their needs and striving to effectively meet these needs in the educational setting, with collaboration from outside agencies and families.Collaborating with, and empowering, teachers to provide a safe, challenging, and nurturing environment where students have the opportunity maximize their potential.Supporting students in the opportunities for fresh starts and new beginnings to make the most of their educational career as well as prepare them for life after school NYS Certification in one of the following: SBL, SDA, SASStrong collaboration & organizational skillsA commitment to meeting the needs of each individual studentA strong belief in our mission to “education, Empower, & Inspire individuals to realize their full potential and pursue lifelong success”Knowledge of PBIS, Trauma-Informed Practices & experience in the field of Special Education is preferred, but not required.
