Department Head of English as a New Language Instruction and Bilingual Content Area Instruction(10.5 month work year)Job Summary:A staff position responsible to the High School Principal and Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education and Bilingual Instruction K-12 Minimum Requirements:Must hold appropriate NYS Administrative CertificationProficiency in oral and written Spanish preferredExperience as an educator across roles and student population. E.g. general education, ELL and special education studentsExperience in at least one of the following areas: Bilingual Education Programs, English as a New Language Program and Secondary English Language Arts ProgramsAdditional requirements include, but are not limited to:Assist with the overall administration, supervision, and implementation of the 9-12 Bilingual and English as a New Second Language (ENL) Program.Assist with scheduling of HS ELLs including placement of Students with Interrupted EducationCoordinate 9-12 NYSESLAT and Regents testingTrack ELLs enrollment trends and graduation cohortsAdvise the HS Principal and Coordinator of Bilingual/ENL Instruction about general staffing needsSupervise and facilitate observations within the departmentDemonstrate knowledge and understanding of curriculum development, project-based learning, program evaluation, effective second language instructional strategies and data driven decision-making.Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the educational needs of ELLs/MLLs and Former ELLs in grades 9-12Extensive knowledge of CR-Part 154-2 RegulationsAttend training and provide turnkey information with other ENL, Bilingual and general education teachersDemonstrate initiative to support parents of ELL/MLL students and the Brentwood Community.Work cooperatively with the Bil/ENL Coordinator, HS building principal and other administrators in the hiring, evaluation and supervision of Secondary level Bilingual and ENL program staffPromote the District’s Bilingual and ENL program through visitations, conferences, in-service courses, meetings at the Office of Bilingual Education and World Language and our R-BERN (Bilingual/ENL) Center.
