The mission of Brighter Choice Charter Schools is to empower our scholars to become responsible learners competent in reading, writing and mathematics and to develop their social-emotional skills. Brighter Choice Charter Schools is committed to providing a well-rounded academic program to all scholars that will enable them to realize their highest potential.The Principal holds primary responsibility for the ongoing development, implementation, and assessment of Brighter Choice academics and school culture. The principal serves as the school’s instructional and operational leader and provides vision and strategic direction for the school. The principal reports directly to the BCCS Board of Trustees. The Principal must demonstrate a relentless drive to improve the minds and lives of scholars in and out of school and implement all aspects of Charter with accuracy. The Principal is responsible for responding to the Charter School Office, delegation of tasks to key stakeholders, and directly reporting to the Board of Trustees.Core Responsibilities:Academic Leadership & Student PerformanceLead a standards-aligned, data-driven academic program that advances scholars’ academic and socio-emotional growth across all grade levels.Oversee curriculum scope and sequence, assessment systems (including NYS exams), and academic action planning based on diagnostic and performance data.Partner with instructional and student support teams to design and implement effective instruction, interventions, and programs for RtI, ENL, and students with disabilities.Report academic progress to the Board of Trustees and collaborate with the Academic Committee to set goals, track outcomes, and guide strategy.Oversee academic initiatives, including Summer School programming.Teaching, Learning & Staff DevelopmentBuild and sustain a culture of high-quality instruction through coaching, observation, feedback, and evaluation of teachers and staff.Design and lead professional development, including pre-service training and ongoing internal and external learning opportunities.Oversee curriculum development, selection, and purchasing of instructional materials and resources.Ensure effective onboarding and hiring processes in collaboration with the Business Office.School Culture, Climate & Family EngagementChampion a strong, inclusive school culture and positive climate that supports high expectations and student success.Build strong relationships with scholars and families and lead school-wide community engagement efforts.Oversee school-wide behavior systems, discipline programs, transitions, and wellness initiatives in collaboration with the Assistant Principal and behavior team.Management, Operations & GovernanceSupervise and support instructional, operational, and support staff; develop systems of accountability across school operations.Lead master scheduling and oversee key operational systems and school-wide procedures.Partner with the Business Office, consultants, and Board of Trustees on budgeting, fiscal oversight, and resource allocation.Report academic, operational, and culture outcomes to the Board of Trustees and state agencies as required.Enrollment, Recruitment & RetentionLead staff recruitment and retention strategies to ensure a high-quality team.Oversee student recruitment, enrollment, admissions, and marketing strategies in collaboration with the Director of Recruitment and community partners, with attention to special populations.Monitor enrollment trends and develop strategies to support retention and growth.Legal & Regulatory ComplianceEnsure compliance with all federal, state, and authorizer requirements, including DASA, Title I, VADIR, SED reporting, and student services (IEPs, 504s).Oversee discipline, code of conduct implementation, and required reporting and reviews in collaboration with legal counsel and key stakeholders.Experience:Proven instructional leadership experience: Minimum 3 years of experience leading teaching and learning, e.g., as an assistant principal, dean, instructional coach, or academic director, with a track record of improving student achievement and teacher performance.School Improvement and change management: Demonstrated ability to lead school improvement, manage change, and drive results in complex or high-accountability environments.Deep experience with data-driven instruction and accountability: Demonstrated ability to use student performance data (including state assessments) to drive instructional decisions, interventions, and school improvement strategies.Staff management, coaching, and evaluation experience: Experience hiring, developing, observing, coaching, and evaluating teachers and staff, including leading professional development and managing performance.Experience in high-need or diverse school settings: Background working with diverse student populations (e.g., ENL, SWD, economically disadvantaged students) preferably in a charter school setting.Operational and compliance leadership experience: Experience overseeing school operations, compliance, budgeting, scheduling, and working with boards, authorizers, or district/state accountability systems (especially in charter or charter-like environments).Education & CertificationMaster’s degree in education, Educational Leadership, School Administration, or a related field (preferred).New York State School Building Leader (SBL) and/or School District Leader (SDL) certification (preferred).NYS teaching certification (preferred).Ongoing eligibility to work in New York State and pass required background checks.We are an equal opportunity employer.
