Alexandria Central School currently has the following full-time vacancy for the 2026-2027 School Year. School Counselor A Probationary appointment will be based on certification and education, NYS Education Laws and the ACFA Teachers' contract. We are looking for a passionate and experienced School Counselor to develop and implement a counseling program to assist students in their personal, social, and academic development. The School Counselor's responsibilities include assisting students with career planning and ensuring students have all the tools to become productive and well-adjusted adults. To be successful as a School Counselor, you should be compassionate, patient, and adaptable. A School Counselor should be prepared to assist any of our students with personal or academic issues. The successful applicant will be the third member of the district's counseling department. The successful candidate possesses: Knowledge in College and Career Readiness skills; Ability to work collaboratively with staff members and administrators; Ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community; Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills; Takes a strengths-based, advocacy approach to working with students and families; Strives to grow and learn in a team-oriented, collaborative environment; High level of integrity and confidentiality Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Listening to students' concerns regarding social, academic, or personal circumstances; Mediating and improving relationships between students, parents, and teachers; Working with students individually and in groups; Social and Emotional Instructor Participation in the CSE process as appropriate; Consultation and collaboration with teachers, staff and parents/guardians; Referrals to and consultation with outside service providers and community resources; Referring students to other support services and mental health professionals as needed; Assisting administrators with mediating student conflicts and partnering with parents and other stakeholders to identify barriers to learning and design personalized interventions; Conducting assessments to determine students' strengths, weaknesses, interests, and aptitude; Working with students to develop and improve their skill set; Assisting students in the development of career goals; Assisting students with scholarship, college, and job applications; School Counselor Requirements: NYS School Counselor Certification Alexandria Central School District is a rural district in the heart of the Thousand Islands region, serving about 500 students in a UPK-12 setting.
