The Alexandria Central School District is accepting applications for a tenure-track Secondary Visual Art teaching position for August 31, 2026. Multiple certifications are preferred, but not required. A probationary appointment will be based on certification and education, NYS Education Laws, and the ACFA Teacher’s contract. We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic educator committed to fostering a love of learning in our Secondary Visual Art students. The ideal candidate will create an engaging, supportive, and inclusive learning environment that nurtures the academic, social, and emotional growth of young learners. General responsibilities in this role include: Develop and implement engaging standards-based lesson plans aligned with the New York State Learning Standards for the Arts in secondary visual arts education. Establish clear learning objectives for lessons, units, and projects, and communicate artistic and academic expectations effectively to students. Plan and deliver instruction using a variety of artistic media, techniques, technology, and creative processes that promote artistic expression, critical thinking, and appreciation of the visual arts. Differentiate instruction to support diverse learning styles, artistic abilities, and individual student needs. Collaborate with Special Education teachers, counselors, and support personnel to modify instruction and assessments for students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and other accommodations. Assess student progress regularly through formal and informal assessments, including portfolios, critiques, presentations, and studio-based projects, to guide instruction. Foster a positive, structured, and student-centered studio environment that encourages creativity, collaboration, self-expression, and mutual respect. Maintain open and professional communication with parents, students, colleagues, administration, and community members to support student growth and achievement. Serve as a positive and professional role model while supporting the mission, vision, and values of the school community. Demonstrate leadership and contribute actively to the school community through participation in art exhibitions, clubs, committees, school events, community arts initiatives, art shows and other student engagement opportunities. ACS is a rural school district located in the heart of the Thousand Islands region of the St. Lawrence River in Alexandria Bay, NY. The school district has a UPK-12 population of about 500 students housed in one building with a staff of 75 full-time personnel. Our school is the hub of the community where most civic, social, and cultural activities take place. The village is a major tourist attraction situated on the U.S. and Canadian border, just five miles north of the Thousand Islands International Bridge and Interstate 81. It is approximately 28 miles north of Watertown and Ft. Drum, 100 miles north of Syracuse, and 30 miles east of Kingston, Ontario, Canada.
