POSITION PURPOSE: To lead a comprehensive choral music program that fosters a lifelong appreciation of music, develops vocal performance skills, and supports the educational mission of Alexandria Central School.GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:Design and deliver engaging vocal music instruction for students in grades K-12.Direct school choirs, plan performances, and coordinate musical events and concerts throughout the school year.Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports student creativity and collaboration.Select age-appropriate repertoire that reflects diverse cultures, styles, and time periods.Teach music theory, sight-reading, and vocal techniques aligned with NYS Learning Standards for the Arts.Collaborate with colleagues to integrate music across the curriculum and support schoolwide initiatives.Prepare students for solo and ensemble festivals, all-county, and other performance opportunities.Maintain accurate records of student progress and performance.Manage program budgets and maintain music department materials and equipment.DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:NYS certification in Music Education (K-12).Experience in choral directing and vocal pedagogy.Strong piano/keyboard skills for rehearsal and accompaniment.Ability to plan, organize, and lead school concerts and community performances.Effective classroom management and communication skills.Passion for music education and student growth.Flexibility, creativity, and a commitment to supporting a well-rounded educational experience.Alexandria Central School District is a rural district in the heart of the Thousand Islands region, serving about 500 students in a UPK-12 setting.
