Special Education, NYS CertifiedThe Alexandria Central School District is accepting applications for a tenure-track Special Education teaching position beginning September 1, 2025. Candidates must hold valid New York State certification in Special Education. Multiple certifications are preferred but not required. The probationary appointment will be based on certification, education, NYS Education Laws, and the ACFA Teacher’s contract.We seek a dedicated and compassionate educator committed to supporting students with diverse learning needs. The ideal candidate will create an inclusive and supportive classroom environment, provide individualized instruction, and collaborate with colleagues to ensure student success. General responsibilities in this role include:Develop and Implement IEPs: Create, modify, and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with New York State Education Department (NYSED) regulations.Differentiate Instruction: Adapt teaching strategies, curriculum, and assessments to meet the diverse learning needs of students with disabilities.Use Evidence-Based Practices: Incorporate research-based instructional methods, including Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS).Provide Direct Instruction: Teach subjects aligned with New York State Learning Standards, ensuring accommodations and modifications per student needs.Maintain Safe Learning Environments: Ensure a structured, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment that fosters student engagement.Monitor Student Progress: Collect and analyze student performance data to measure IEP goal progress and inform instructional decisions.Administer Assessments: Conduct formal and informal assessments, including state-mandated alternate assessments when applicable.Report Progress to Stakeholders: Provide regular updates to parents, general education teachers, and related service providers.Work with General Education Teachers: Co-teach and collaborate in Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) and Consultant Teacher models to support inclusion.Engage with Related Service Providers: Coordinate with speech therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, and counselors to ensure comprehensive student support.Support Transition Planning: Assist students with transition goals, including vocational training, higher education, and independent living skills.Professional Development: Stay current on special education laws, instructional practices, and certifications through NYSED-approved professional learning opportunities.Alexandria Central School District is a rural district in the heart of the Thousand Islands region, serving about 500 students in a UPK-12 setting.
