The North Shore Central School District is seeking a visionary, highly organized, student centered, and compassionate Director of Special Education to lead and manage all aspects of special education services districtwide. This individual will ensure that students with disabilities receive high-quality, individualized support aligned with federal, state, and local regulations. The Director will serve as an advocate for inclusive practices, a partner to families, and a resource to staff across our schools.Key Responsibilities:Provide leadership in the development, organization, implementation, and evaluation of special education programs and services.Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations, including IDEA and Section 504.Oversee the identification, evaluation, placement, and provision of services for students with disabilities.Work collaboratively with and co-supervise the two Assistant Directors of Special Education.Supervise and support special education teachers, related service providers, and paraprofessionals.Coordinate and lead the Committee on Special Education (CSE) and Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) processes.Collaborate with general education administrators to promote inclusive instructional practices.Develop and manage budgets for special education programs.Partner with families and caregivers to foster strong, supportive relationships and ensure student success.Plan and deliver professional development to staff regarding special education policies, instructional strategies, and legal updates.Collect and analyze data to improve student outcomes and program effectiveness.Qualifications:Master’s degree or higher in Special Education, School Psychology, Educational Administration, or a related field.Valid administrative certification (e.g., School District Leader or equivalent).Minimum of 5 years of experience in special education leadership, including previous experience as a director.In-depth knowledge of federal and state special education laws, regulations, and best practices.In-depth and updated knowledge of psycho-educational testing, evaluation and assessment.Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and collaboration.Experience managing multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) and inclusive programming.Background in behavioral interventions and support strategies.Familiarity with IEP management systems (e.g., IEP Direct, Frontline).Salary and Benefits:Competitive salary commensurate with experience in the range of $180,000 - $210,000 annually.
